VOLVO, Living Seawall
A 10-year client-agency partnership that’s got better and better. We’re currently helping Volvo transition in a future-facing mobility company and get ready to be all-electric by 2026. Nearly 6 years ago, we put strategic brand idea into the local market called, Omtanke. A Swedish word that holds a very ideal philosophy - to think again, to care and consider.
It was an idea that led to work like The Living Seawall - a 20-year ocean conservation project that seeks to restore biodiversity and improve water quality in Sydney Harbour, designed in collaboration with Reef Design Lab and the Sydney Institute of Marine Science. The project involves creating tiles made from concrete reinforced with recycled plastic to mimic mangrove root structures, enhancing marine biodiversity and water quality by attracting filter-feeding organisms. The Living Seawall will remain a landmark in Sydney Harbour, contributing to long-term scientific research and ocean conservation.
After 24 months, the seawall hosted 91 species, with 73% more species on the mangrove-mimicking panels compared to flat panels. Notably, 44% of the species were unique to the Living Seawall, and it supported 30-40 more species than control seawalls. The panels attracted diverse marine life, including algae, mussels, oysters, and mobile species like snails and crustaceans, contributing to improved water quality and ecosystem health
